EVA foam 5mm - High Density

High density EVA foam Cosplay 5mm (High Density)

High density EVA foam, short for Ethylene-Vinyl Acetate foam, is a popular material used in cosplay for crafting costumes, props, and armor. It is a flexible, lightweight, and durable polymer that can be shaped and manipulated with ease, making it ideal for creating detailed, wearable designs. EVA foam is known for its versatility, as it can be heated, cut, glued, sanded, and painted to resemble anything from futuristic armor to fantasy weapons. Cosplayers favor it for its affordability and the professional-quality results it can achieve when used correctly alone or in combination with other materials such as ThermoArt.

There are three types of this material, each varying in density and application, as follows:

  • Soft density (hardness below 25º Shore) is the least expensive and of lower quality, often too flimsy for crafts for children's projects. It doesn’t hold its shape well, has porous finishes, and lacks the durability needed for wearable costumes. As a result, this type is not recommended for serious cosplayers looking for lasting creations.

  • Medium density (hardness 30º-40º Shore) is the most commonly used type in cosplay. It strikes a balance between flexibility and firmness, making it ideal for constructing armor, accessories, and props that require some degree of structural integrity while remaining comfortable to wear. This type can be heat-formed, sanded, and detailed easily, making it versatile for various projects.

  • Hard density (hardness over 50º Shore-A) is more rigid and durable, used for larger or more complex pieces that need to maintain their shape over time. It’s ideal for helmets, shields, or pieces of armor that need to withstand more wear and tear. While it is heavier and more challenging to work with than medium density, the hard-density version provides a sturdy, polished finish for professional-grade projects.
